IHO seeks input on Standards for Hydrographic Surveys (S-44)
Almost ten years have passed since the Monaco-based intergovernmental International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) adopted the current (5th) edition of its Special Publication No. 44, Standards for Hydrographic Surveys (S-44) in February 2008. This publication, which can be downloaded at www.iho.int/iho_pubs/standard/S-44_5E.pdf, is designed to provide a set of global standards for the conduct of hydrographic surveys and collection of data which will be primarily used in the compilation of nautical charts to ensure navigational safety and the protection of the marine environment.
At its 8th meeting, last November, the IHO Hydrographic Services and Standards Committee (HSSC) established a new Project Team on Standards for Hydrographic Surveys (HSPT) which will conduct a comprehensive review of S-44 before developing and submitting recommendations for the future. Representatives from thirteen IHO Member States (Australia, Brazil, Canada, France , Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Sweden, UK and USA), Observers (International Federation of Hydrographic Societies) and Expert Contributors from iXBlue, the University of Southern Mississippi, IIC Technologies, ARGANS and Fugro gathered for the inaugural Project Team meeting, hosted by SHOM, in Paris this summer.
One of the principal outcomes was a confidential online questionnaire designed to gauge the views of S-44 users, stakeholders and the wider hydrographic community on a range of topics. The IHO is particularly keen to gather the opinions of those working in the commercial hydrographic sectors. The eventual conclusions of this exercise will be published on the IHO website (www.iho.int).
The questionnaire, which has a closing date of Friday 17th November 2017, can be found at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/HSPT_S-44_Q.

Happy Easter 2016
Intervista al prof. Aldo Monaca – presidente IHS
IHS, associazione idrografica catanese.
L’EIVA DAY 2015 fa tappa a Catania, unica in Italia e in Europa.

EIVA dives further into the Mediterranean Sea
EIVA has recently increased its focus on providing customers a local point of contact due to growing international activities. Last week, the Danish offshore specialist announced that the Brazilian company MACSEA had joined the worldwide network of EIVA representatives.
This week, EIVA signed yet another representative agreement, this time with the Italian company Marine ONE.
Marine ONE will be the first company in Italy to hold the title as authorised EIVA representative. Marine ONE is headed by Dr Aldo Monaca, who has many years’ experience in the surveying discipline, and who is pleased to announce the new agreement:
“We are very happy to become EIVA representative in Italy and will strive to also become training partner in Italy and the surrounding countries such as Malta. Marine ONE sees this partnership as a great opportunity and looks forward to growing the sales of EIVA hardware, software, including system solutions, in the Italian market in the years to come,” said Dr Aldo Monaca, CEO of Marine ONE.
‘Marine ONE has demonstrated great interest and capability in representing EIVA, and, with its high level of enthusiasm, we are confident that Marine ONE can attend to EIVA’s interest and meet our growth ambitions,’ said Jakob Møller Nielsen.
EIVA Day Italy 2015 to be the first joint activity
The new agreement kicks off with an EIVA Day Italy taking place next week in Sicily on 27 October at the Nautical College of Catania (Istituto Tecnico Nautico Statale Duca degli Abruzzi), at which both EIVA and Marine ONE will be present. The event offers offshore professionals a chance to learn more about EIVA’s solutions and services and how the company in cooperation with Marine ONE can contribute to ensuring more efficient offshore operations both time- and cost-wise.
“We believe there is great potential in the Italian market, not least due to the many oil and gas activities expected in the future. The many people who have already signed up for the EIVA Day Italy testify to this, and we look forward to exploring the opportunities in the country further together with Marine ONE,” said EIVA Sales Director Jakob Møller Nielsen.
